Gold Coast, meet a traditional land owner and hear the dreamtime stories associated with the creation of Jellurgal.

Jellurgal Walkabout
(2 hour tour)

Start your tour with an audio/visual presentation in our Dreaming Amphitheatre followed by an Ochre Ceremony. Then take a guided walk around the “Dreaming Mountain”, Jellurgal.

 

Hear about traditional life pre-contact, bush tucker, fishing, hunting and the important ecological practices and connection to the land displayed by the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years.

Jellurgal Journey
(2.5 hour tour)

Beginning with a live Aboriginal dance performance in our Dreaming Amphitheatre followed by an Ochre Ceremony on the Tallebudgera estuary, this tour will immerse you in Aboriginal culture and take you on a one-hour guided walk around the “Dreaming Mountain”, Jellurgal.

 

Hear about traditional life pre-contact, bush tucker, fishing, hunting and the important ecological practices and connection to the land displayed by the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years.

 

The tour concludes at the foot of the mountain at approx 11.30pm.

Jellurgal Journey and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
(Full day tour)

Reconnect with Jarra ‘Mother Earth’ in a full day joint tour of Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Immerse yourself in Dreamtime stories, Aboriginal dance and didgeridoo performances, a guided walk and an opportunity to get close to over 1,000 native Australian animals.

 

The journey begins at Jellurgal where you will be greeted with an introduction to the Yugambeh speaking region followed by a visual presentation sharing just some of the Aboriginal history of the Gold Coast. You will then take an Aboriginal guided tour of Burleigh Heads National Park where countless culturally significant sites, including an ancient midden, have played an important role in the lives of Aboriginal people, both socially and environmentally.

 

Following on from Jellurgal is Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, home to one of the largest collections of Australian wildlife in the world with many interactive opportunities to experience such as cuddling a koala, feeding a kangaroo, holding a baby crocodile or snake or visiting the on-site Wildlife Hospital.

 

Your tour will conclude with a live Aboriginal dance performance which celebrates our rich local Aboriginal culture and enables you to experience a taste of the Yugambeh language, dance and stories.
